The best starter for pokemon gaia is empoleon. You're given the choice of any sinnoh starter and out of all of them the empoleon performs the best. Keeping in mind that this game has generation six mechanics, Empoleon now resists fairy which the other starters don't. When looking at the main matchups it is very easy going with empoleon.
